Well this is news to me! Let's quote the Tini website
http://www.ibutton.com/TINI/index.html which says:

"It is a proven and commercially available reference implementation", and I
have designed in this module into commercial equipment of which I have just
built the first production batch. My guess is you could order more but with
sufficient lead time.

I've said this before, but there really is very little incentive to design
your own unless you can *guarantee* a large market and sell hundreds of them
to recoup the design costs. Rolling your own takes time and effort, not to
mention money. Finding components availability and lead times, buying them
(in MOQ quantities), designing, building, procuring and testing the PCB
etc.. There would be significantly greater incentive to roll your own if
there were a single button on Maxim's website to order a full kit of parts
(excluding PCB), this would speed up development of the prototype
significantly, and would do for low production runs. Also for production it
would be nice to be able to selectively remove parts from that order - i.e.
a one-stop-shop for all parts you really need to build a custom TINI. Since
Maxim must get these components anyway in bulk it makes sense to do this,
after all I think selling components is the real aim.
