Are you using the Freescale BSP?

If so on the image under the Help/software/device_drivers/ directory the
file USB_MCF5445x.htm explains all the ins and outs of USB on the 54455EVB.

Short answer:

- make sure hardware is correct
* SW1[4] off
* JP918 Jumper in the 1-2 position

- load the USB host driver
# modprobe ehci-hcd

- by default (assuming you haven't changed anything) the kernel is
configured to use the ULPI transceiver which is the Mini-AB connector
labeled "J909". So you need to use a cable with a mini-a plug on it.

- connect the flash device to the appropriate port (see last line).
- if all works you should see messages on the console about it
- you can then use it -- assuming it mounted as sda:
# fdisk -l /dev/sda
