Hi Steve, I think the best approach is to open your installed \Program Files\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior\Help\_index.chm file, select "Embedded PowerPC->MPC5xx and going through the first few chapters for a tutorial on how to create, download and debug a simple application. That might make CW a little less confusing. Ron -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of spw_lotus Hi All I am new to powerpc programming and I am currently struggling to get any code running on my MPC555 processor. Would I would ideally like is an IDIOTS guide (ideally with examples/source) on how to get started. I have sample board with a MPC555 processor, it is preloaded with a monitor utility that enables me to upload an s19 hex file to RAM and then execute it. So I would ideally like to create such a file. Firstly what are the best tools to use...I have never used Unix/Linux so these options would require a long learning curve. I have downloaded the CodeWarrior package (Ver 8.1) but it is very confusing. All I want to do at present is generate the simplest possible program, maybe something that toggles a port pin or writes to a register, to confirm I can generate something that works. If this is done with a 'C' compiler then it would be nice to see a final assembly listing of the output so that I can see what is going on. I apologise for my ignorance in this subject matter. I have come from an 8051 microcontroller background and have written in both assembler and 'C' for this processor (using Keil Tools) and everything was pretty straightforward. I got a Keil evaluation and had a 'C' program up and running in a matter of hours on my target microcontroller. For the MPC555 I have already spent days looking for a compiler or assembler with some basic examples I can use for my evaluation of this processor and I still don't have any code produced. Any help/advice from you experts to get this idiot up and running would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks for taking the time to read to this point!
