I'm surprised you never got an earlier response to this as there are numerous options.  Here are some basics:

You should design the 10-pin BDM connector onto your board as this is definitely the way to debug.  P&E and Macgraigor offer a wiggler for approx $150.

Download code to the processor:
- BDM is best. Compare this to using PCBUG11 for debugging the HC11. This allows you to download to RAM, program FLASH, run, break, view memory, etc.

- the reset config word is controlled either by the data bus pins at reset or the FLASH config word and defines if you wil boot externall/externally, expanded mode (EBI pins available) or single-chip mode (EBI pins are GPIO). This allows you to boot from internal FLASH or external memory.  To boot from internal FLASH you first have to program the FLASH, normally with a BDM connection.

- I know Axiom have a bootloader (i.e. monitor ROM) on their development boards and you can connect via SCI/RS232. I'm not use if this is their IP or if its generally available. You would have to put this in an extewrnal memory and boot from there. This allows you to debug code and to program FLASH.

Okay, here's the deal.  I'm a ME major at the University of Utah, 
and I'm developing a controller board for several robots we have 
here.  I will be using the MPC565.  This has really been a learning 
experience.  I'm modeling my board after some of the more simple 
evaluation boards.  My first (many are likely to follow) question is 
this:

What is the most user-friendly way to download code to the processor?

Expanded:  I am only familiar with the HC11, and I know that the 
MPC565 has no bootstrap mode.  Is there a bootloader I can implement 
in processor flash to accept serially transmitted code and save it 
to external flash or ram?

I know that a wiggler will work, but they're surprisingly 
expensive.  A less expensive option would be better for the budget.

I realize this is quite a leap for me to try to take, but processing 
needs have escalated to the point where only the 565 will do.  If 
any of you could refer me to helpful websites, I would appreciate 
it.  Thanks in advance!
