Wind River also provides the leading compiler for the MPC5500 family,
along with a debugger and IDE for the MPC5554.

You can order an MPC5554 (or other 55xx) EVB from the Freescale website.
This will include aboard and part plus I believe it ships with a P&E USB
wiggler plus the demo version of the P&E C compiler and source level
debugger. The P&E demo version is code size limited and can be
downloaded for free from their web site at pemicro.com.

Also on the Freescale MPC5554 home page is the freeware GAP debugger and
eSYS Flasher utility. GAP is a simple assembler level debugger with
scrpting.

Codewarrior support a compiler but not a debugger. Greenhills offer a
dbugger and compiler. Lauterbach offer a debugger. I believe the
freeware gnu debugger is also available for the family. I'm sure there
are others out there.

I'd be guessing if I suggested costs, so the following are all based on
assumptions:
EVB w wiggler - $1000 (please refer to freescale.com and enter mpc5554
in part number).
Lauterbach debugger - approx $4000 for basic pod, above $10K for full
trace capability.
Greenhills, Codewarrior, full P&E compiler/debuggers - less than $2K ?

Subject: [MPC500] MPC-55xx Tools

My employer is about to start doing an pre-study on a project that's
specified as using the MPC-55xx. Since we're not likely to be paid by
the end customer for this particular part of the work, we don't want
to spend massive amounts of money.

What tools are available for this platform?

What tools are people using?

What sort of costs are we looking at?

Initially, we'd like to use an evaluation kit of some sort, with a
reasonable compiler set.

We'll have to end up being AutoSAR-compliant, but this is not
necessarily a requirement for the pre-study. (We'll probably end up
developing our own AutoSAR modules anyway.)

Thanks in advance for any input.

Geoff
