CALRAM looks all "0xFFFF"

Hi

Even after we set up to use MPC565 CALRAM, it seems to always be 0xFFFF.
Even the GHS debugger shows it as 0xFFFF, even if we use "memory fill"
to try to write to it.

Can anyone suggest an easily-overlooked or non-obvious part of CALRAM
software setup?
Or if someone has seen this on their own board, what they had to do to
fix it?

Or if there is something at the hardware level that has to be done to
enable the chip's internal CALRAM?
