Using "whole" or non-partitioned drives will use a minimum of 6 full drives (at least to start, P+P+D with RAID-DP and drive size <10TB). If the drive size is 10T or larger, RAID-TEC is used instead. Not-knowing the size of the drives/SSDs in question make this a little difficult to answer. It is trivial to get around the whole-drive/partitioned drive when adding in the future.
