hd1000 - lossless audio?

I've been looking around for the best solution for playing my audio 
library through my stereo. I've decided that the best choice is the 
hd1000 in combination with jukebox app.  The soundbridge is slick, but 
I feel that with a large collection of albums, an lcd display will not 
provide enough space for browsing.

But...
The only thing that is holding me back from buying the hd1000 today is 
the lack of compatibility with lossless formats. Currently, I have my 
files saved as FLACs, though I am now in the process of converting them 
to Apple lossless so that they work with iTunes and my iPod.

1) I see that FLAC support is making progress - any information on 
when? I know, the most annoying questions for developers.

2) What about apple lossless? I hear that Apple has recently released 
developer tools for the new iTunes + Quicktime versions, which 
therefore describe the apple lossless format.
