I played back more .ts recordings from HDNET and found that the video actually plays back perfect. It is the audio that goes in and out. The clip will start out in sync and then the audio will go in and out. If I forward to the next file it will sync again momentarily then go in and out. I will see about getting a small sample file out there in case someone would like to take a look. After writing the above I Think a possible solution would be to just record my .ts files in smaller chunks so they don't have time to get out of sync. I've decided that the best choice is the hd1000 in combination with jukebox app. The soundbridge is slick, but I feel that with a large collection of albums, an lcd display will not provide enough space for browsing. But... The only thing that is holding me back from buying the hd1000 today is the lack of compatibility with lossless formats. Currently, I have my files saved as FLACs, though I am now in the process of converting them to Apple lossless so that they work with iTunes and my iPod. 1) I see that FLAC support is making progress - any information on when? I know, the most annoying questions for developers. 2) What about apple lossless? I hear that Apple has recently released developer tools for the new iTunes + Quicktime versions, which therefore describe the apple lossless format. Thanks for your time! I recently re-ripped all of my ~400 CDs into Apple lossless and archived those files onto 30+ DVD+RW. (Apple lossless is actually MPEG4 lossless format). So I'm interested in support for the Apple lossless format. If they weren't MPEG2 transport streams I'd expect them to be _completely_ unplayable on the HD1000 -- just a black screen and no audio. Also, 169time is intended for use with DVHS recorder, so I'd think that it would have to emit an MPEG2 transport stream to be useful there. But perhaps 169time is doing some processing up-front that leaves the stream just "good enough" for the typical DVHS machine but not the HD1000. I found that finding the right size and quality picture can take as long as ripping the CD. And updating 20-30+MB files to include the cover art was slow (on 2.8GHz P4 laptop). FWIW, converting the lossless on DVD to mp3 made the effort worth it. Because the 169time guys engineered it to work with the jvc 30k dvhs deck, anything else is gravy to them. The world is changing and archiving to tape is not going to last much longer. They've been told many times they need to more fully support recording to disk, but I think because of a lack of pc expertise on their part, they haven't done much. The basic mechanism works pretty well for me, although the lack of scheduling, easy format conversion, and weak tools is a big downside. Even with those issues, I'm still happy with my purchase. The issue of whether it's the source material or the captured stream has been the crux from the beginning. There hasn't been a good scientific test done with multiple people capturing the same data at the same time in the same format, both to hard drive and to jvc then to hard drive. There's a method that could be used to at least isolate it, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't been done yet. From reading the myriad AVS postings, as soon as the group thinks they have it figured out, someone injects a contradictory data point, and we're all left with our hands in the air. There's also been some debate as to which channels it happens with, and it seems to happen more with non-OTA channels.
