RE: DVD Video w/ AC3 audio

What version of vlc are you using? Currently it looks like HTTP in 0.7.2 is
broken. Using 0.7.1 and streaming via hardwire network 100 mb and http
streaming works flawless. In the streaming wizard pick your source. Then
stream output should be http and mpeg ts. No transcoding options required.

I've tried a number of different ways to play DVD material on the HD1000
with only a little success.

1) DVD -> VOB files
I used DVDDecrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/) in stream editing mode to
create VOB files (MPEG2 Program Streams) with only the MPEG-2 video and AC3
audio:
    Found stream id 0xBF  = Private Stream 2
    Found stream id 0xE0  = Video Stream 0
    Found stream id 0xBE  = Padding Stream
    Found stream id 0xBD  = Private Stream 1, substream 0x80, AC3 Audio
stream 0

These play back with CinemaSix 0.9, but:
    -) Audio is stereo PCM, not AC3 5.1
    -) Audio is pretty much always out of sync (even after hitting rotate)


2) DVD -> MPEG2 Transport Stream
VLC (http://www.videolan.org) does this pretty cleanly, but I can't figure
out how it chooses the audio program.  A sample file looks like:
    Found PID 0x0000, Program Association Table Stream
    Found PID 0x0042, Other Stream
    Found PID 0x0044, stream id 0xE0 = Video Stream 0
    Found PID 0x0045, stream id 0xBD = Private Stream 1

These play with StreamPlayer, but:
    -) No audio at all

With CinemaSix 0.9:
    -) Audio is Stereo PCM, not AC3


3) DVD -> MPEG2 Transport Stream -> ATSC compatible MPEG2 Transport Stream
Use VLC as above, then use the TStoATSC tool found at
http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~balazer/atsc/ to perform the last step.
I used the -c option.  Note that it NULL pads the output, so the files (and
bit rates) get a log bigger.
    Found PID 0x0011, stream id 0xE0 = Video Stream 0
    Found PID 0x0000, Program Association Table Stream
    Found PID 0x0010, Other Stream
    Found PID 0x1FFF, Null Packet Stream
    Found PID 0x0014, stream id 0xBD = Private Stream 1

StreamPlayer:
    -) AC3 5.1 audio with good sync (!!!)

CinemaSix 0.9:
    -) Audio is still Stereo PCM, not AC3
    -) Video/audio is choppy and audio will stop after a while
    -) Remote stops responding (running out of CPU?)


Thoughts/comments?
