MPEG4 video on HD1000?

Is there any way to play an MPEG4 Video on the HD1000? I tried VLC but don't
understand the command line interface on the Roku well enough to get
anything to happen.

VLC is on the flash card

The video files are in the following directory:

panther-server/barracuda/video server/
