Thanks Martin and David.  Martin, I'll take a look at the patch and
configuration this weekend.  David, nothing strange about my kernel, I
don't believe.  It is fairly stock, with some obvious not-needed drivers
removed.  As for hardware, I do have a esata card installed, but that is
it.
