Help with MAME please

I've only ever used XRoar for development. I'm trying to use MAME now. I'm
using the following command line:

mame coco2b -cart src/coco/toolshed/hdbdos/hdbdw3bck.rom -hard1
~/Dropbox/Public/hdbdos-16k/16ktestdisk.dsk

The emulation freezes at the signon screen (it does recognize HDB-DOS
though). I tried not using the -hard1 parameter and instead starting the
DriveWire server, to no avail.

I'm sure it's something stupid simple I'm not doing.
