I checked this with my self made build of mspgcc on ubuntu and all builds fine. I just had to run msp430-gcc -mmcu=msp430g2231 -o test.hex test.c All other parameters you used were not necessary, because the includes and lib paths are added by default. So if the additional parameters are necessary on your system I would guess that something with the build of mspgcc on your system is wrong. If I take a look at your additional parameters compared with the locations in my mspgcc build your parameters look wrong to me. I would have to use -I /usr/local/msp430/msp430/include/ instead of -I /usr/local/msp430/include/ -L /usr/local/msp430/msp430/lib/ instead of -L /usr/local/msp430/lib/ -T /usr/local/msp430/msp430/lib/ldscripts/msp430g2231/memory.x instead of -T /usr/local/msp430/lib/ldscripts/msp430g2231/memory.x -T /usr/local/msp430/msp430lib/ldscripts/msp430g2231/periph.x instead of -T /usr/local/msp430/lib/ldscripts/msp430g2231/periph.x If I use your additional parameters adapted to my path layout I get the same error than you. So please try just msp430-gcc -mmcu=msp430g2231 -o test.hex test.c and if this is not sufficient check your build of mspgcc.
