I have two Buffalo Linkstation's 120GB and 250GB.
They are indeed very quiet and reliable. The main current firmware problem
is that the web configuration page becomes unavailable after some time. You
need to reboot the unit to make it accessible again. This error does not
influence accessibility.
I also experience a problem deleting large number of files, were some file
trees only delete after unnerving retries.
No current firmware available curing the problem. I saw somewhere in the net
that they work on it.
Despite this the Linkstation is by far my favorite NAS today.
I saw last week in Japan that they already have a Gigabit Version with Disk
Size up to 400GB. Same housing, same size. Price in Yen around 600USD.
They combine this with a device called LinkTheater as a MultiMedia access
device with (probably) streaming software on the Linkstation or
alternatively on a PC. Also pretty cool.

I have a 200GB Buffalo Linkstation.  It works just fine with the AT and
is fast, quiet and reliable.  It's major limitation is its network
hardware: 10/100 ethernet.  Highly recommended.

It has two USB2.0 ports, one for printer sharing and one for an
additional USB drive.  It runs embedded Linux on a PowerPC CPU, which
means it's hackable.  One function I've added is an NTP client and
server, so the Linkstation maintains the time standard for my network.
