Re: Overkill?

No, there are still some mid-priced ones around. How about the
well-reviewed Perpetual Technologies P-3A? It's $800, which is hardly
cheap, but it's certainly not in the $$$ audiophile range.

There are also an increasing number of preamps with built-in DACs that
actually surpass the audiophile stand-alone D/As of a few years ago.
Bryston has a nice one, for example.
