Yes, I think your AT has the older version of the power supply. Thats a typical problem of these. The newer ones are switching supplys that are fixed only with 2 screws. Sometimes the circuit board breaks at the edge of one screw and then a transistor dies (and maybe a few other parts). Often you can hear the high frequency tone, then.
