We invite researchers and practitioners to participate in our workshop on โ€œEmerging Risks of Conversational AIโ€ at the 2026 Conversational User Interfaces Conference.

Conversational AI systems are becoming increasingly embedded in everyday life, bringing new opportunities alongside emerging risks. While these technologies offer significant benefits, they also introduce emerging risks that require critical examination. Some risks materialize immediately, including misinformation, privacy violations, accessibility barriers, and manipulative interactions. Others emerge gradually over time, such as emotional dependency, over-reliance on AI, erosion of human agency, normalization of biased language, and broader societal impacts.

This workshop brings together researchers, designers, and practitioners from diverse backgrounds to explore both immediate and long-term risks of CUIs and AI agents. Participants will reflect on unintended consequences of conversational AI and develop strategies for responsible, inclusive, and human-centred design.

Attendance in this workshop is open to CUI participants. Participants who would like to present work-in-progress, preliminary findings, methodological approaches, design explorations, critical perspectives, or case studies related to the risks and unintended consequences of conversational AI are invited to submit a 2โ€“4 page position paper.

Each submission will undergo independent review by at least two workshop organizers before acceptance. Authors of accepted submissions will have the opportunity to present their work during the workshop. Participants who would like to attend and contribute to discussions without presenting are very welcome and do not need to submit a paper.
