The sixth Workshop on User-Centered Artificial Intelligence (UCAI ’26) will
be held in Duisburg, Germany, in conjunction with

30 – September 2) and is organized by the working group

Nutzerzentrierte Künstliche Intelligenz (NKI) of the German Gesellschaft für
Informatik (GI).

 

Call for Contributions

UCAI ‘26 is entitled Human-Centered AI in Applications – Challenges and
Promises and will address topics at the intersection of human-computer
interaction (HCI) and artificial intelligence (AI), with the aim of
strengthening human-centered design in AI-based applications.

 

A major goal is to explore and discuss how to empower users by making
intelligent systems more transparent, interpretable, and explainable.
Providing users with appropriate levels of interactivity and control over
systems will be essential to fostering trust, accountability, and,
eventually, facilitating the adoption of AI in practical settings, including
high-stakes contexts. Counteracting potential biases in data and algorithms
is another important lever to increase fairness, especially in applied
contexts where decisions have real-world impact. There are also
methodological gaps in evaluating AI-based solutions with respect to user
experience, acceptability, and measurable business outcomes. Understanding
how AI-generated outputs are perceived by users, and whether AI-based
assessments can serve as valid proxies for human judgment, remain open
methodological questions, especially for applications where expert knowledge
is required.

 

Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

*	Integration of generative and agentic AI into domain-specific
workflows
*	Design practices and tools for AI workflow augmentation
*	Transparency and explainability of AI outcomes in application
contexts
*	Perception and validity of AI outcomes vs. human judgment
*	Trust and user experience in applied AI
*	Interactive control and customization of AI for application needs
*	Conversational and mixed-modality interfaces for AI in applications
*	User-centric evaluation and auditing of applied AI
*	Ethical and legal considerations of deploying AI in applications

 

UCAI ‘26 aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners in the
field of human-centered AI to discuss opportunities, challenges, and methods
for AI-supported applications. The workshop will be held in a two-part
format, comprising paper presentations and creative group sessions to
identify and discuss the challenges and promises of AI systems in
applications.

 

Important Dates

*	Submission deadline: June 12, 2026
*	Notification: July 3, 2026
*	Camera-ready deadline: July 22, 2026

 

Submissions

We solicit submissions in different categories, including research studies,
case studies, experience reports, opinion articles, and vision papers.
Papers must be between 3 and 7 pages long (excluding references). The length
of the paper should be commensurate with its contribution. Submissions must
be prepared in accordance with the main conference’s instructions and
submitted via  <https://www.conftool.pro/muc2026/> ConfTool.

 

Registration and Publication

Each accepted paper must be accompanied by a distinct full author
registration. Accepted papers will be presented in person and will be
included in the GI digital library.
