Call for Participation: NordiCHI 2026 Workshop on Navigating Design Spaces and Guidelines for Human Augmentation in Industry and Craftsmanship

Hello All,

Join us for an interactive workshop on human augmentation at NordiCHI 2026!

While industry has seen some applications on human augmentation, adoption in craftsmanship has been limited. Additionally, research in industry has mainly emphasised physical augmentation, leaving opportunities for cognitive and sensory enhancements. Interestingly, contexts characterised by complex manual tasks seem underexplored - an area of importance both for craftsmanship and industry and thus our focus for our workshop.

In our workshop, we discuss the enhancement capabilities of technology in industry and craftsmanship. We will focus on tangible constraints to ensure that augmentation supports, but never overrides worker judgment, avoids surveillance, and integrates safely into diverse skill levels. For participants, the workshop will clarify how augmentation reshapes expertise, autonomy, embodiment, and responsibility across industrial work and craftsmanship, offering new insights and perspectives on Human 2.0 to the participants and conceptual anchors for their future HCI research.
The workshop is designed for collaborative scenario work and hands-on group interaction where participants engage in group activities centred around the workshop themes.

Through our workshop, we aim to sharpen the discourse on human augmentation in industry and craftsmanship while identifying concrete future research directions.
