WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
The premature aging of Internet of Things (IoT) systems is one of the key
challenges that must be addressed to enable their widespread and sustainable
deployment. Both hardware and software—from resource-constrained sensor nodes
to edge devices and cloud infrastructures—must be considered holistically to
achieve deployment lifetimes measured in decades rather than years.
Rapidly evolving communication protocols, vendor-specific software platforms,
hardware obsolescence, and increasing maintenance complexity make today's IoT
ecosystems inherently brittle. Addressing these challenges is essential for
building sustainable, maintainable, and resilient IoT systems.
The 3rd International Workshop on Longevity in IoT Systems (LongevIoT 2026)
aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and
industry to present novel ideas, discuss emerging challenges, and establish a
community dedicated to improving the longevity and sustainability of IoT
systems.
TOPICS OF INTEREST INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Digital Twins for improved longevity
• Sovereign AI/ML for longevity (local TLMs and SLMs)
• Repairable and maintainable software and hardware design
• Batteryless computing
• Retrofitting features and security
• Serverless computing and the computing continuum
• Sustainable computing paradigms and architectures
• Aging AI models
• Continuous and lifelong learning
• Flexible and adaptive deployments
• Protocol maintenance
• Real-world examples and industrial case studies
• Software design patterns for sustainable and robust IoT
• Software update planning
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Regular papers should present original research, novel ideas, practical
experiences, or visionary concepts within the scope of the workshop.
• Paper length: 6–8 pages (including references)
• Format: PDF using the ACM Primary Article Template
• Review process: Double-blind peer review
• Submission system: EasyChair (submission link available via the workshop website)
Accepted papers will be published in the ACM International Conference
Proceedings Series (ICPS) companion proceedings of IoT 2026.
At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference,
attend the workshop, and present the paper in person.
IMPORTANT DATES
Paper Submission Deadline: August 28, 2026 (AoE)
Author Notification: September 18, 2026
Camera-ready Submission: October 2, 2026
Workshop: November 17, 2026
