Dear CHI community,
We are pleased to invite submissions to AI CHAOS! =97 the 3rd Workshop on t=
he Challenges for Human Oversight of AI Systems, co-located with ACM HCOMP=
=9226.
This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners across AI, huma=
n computation, HCI, psychology, law, and policy to examine how human oversi=
ght can move beyond a regulatory checkbox toward rigorous, scalable, and me=
aningful mechanisms for monitoring, intervention, accountability, and human=
agency.
We invite contributions on topics including, but not limited to:

Distributed Oversight: Coordinating workflows across operators, domain expe=
rts, and compliance officers.
*
Scalable Steering: Interaction paradigms that alleviate cognitive fatigue, =
oversight burnout, and automation bias.
*
Misalignment Repair: Real-time mechanisms to detect, communicate, and fix h=
uman-AI misalignment at runtime.
*
Evaluation and Policy: Translating legal frameworks into verifiable softwar=
e architectures and human-centric metrics.
Submission formats:
*
Full research papers: 4=966 pages excluding references
*
Short position papers: 2=964 pages excluding references
*
Format: Standard ACM format, following the HCOMP 2026 submission templates
*
Archival status: Non-archival
Submissions will undergo lightweight peer review. Accepted papers will be f=
eatured through interactive presentations and collaborative breakout sessio=
ns.

Notification to authors: August 7, 2026

Conference early-bird registration: August 22, 2026
