To whom it may concern,

We at the *ACM South African Special Interest Group in Computer-Human
Interaction known as ProteaCHI* are excited to announce our first
symposium, which will be held from* Monday the 30th of November to Thursday
the 3rd of December at Emeris Campus in Cape Town, South Africa*.

The aim for the symposium is to grow the human-computer interaction
community in Africa and South Africa, culminating in increased submissions
to both ACM AfriCHI 2027 in Lagos, Nigeria and ACM CHI 2028 which is to be
held in Cape Town in South Africa. Moreover, we are hoping that, through
this initiative, it will culminate in the advancement and development of
ACM SIGCHI chapters throughout the continent. For those coming from
industry, NPO/NGOs, as well as research and development are also invited to
join the event and help grow the network.

We hereby invite you, your colleague and or students to join us in Cape
Town. There is no registration fees to attend, you will however need to
cover your accommodation, flights and travel costs.

*Academic and students*
For you, your colleagues and or students to partake in our symposium we
require the following:

   - You present your research or workshop which aligns to the topic
of  "Embracing
   HCI for an Empowered Africa and South Africa" at the symposium.
   - Both you, your colleagues and or your students are required to become =
ACM
   SIGCHI <https://sigchi.org/people/membership/> and ProteaCHI
   <https://forms.gle/q8gHftnC5zvXxU1p9>members.
   - You can find the additional requirements for you under "Academics
   requirements" and students " Student requirements" at the end of this
   email.
   - All your and your student materials are sent to us via the relevant
   form by relevant documentation is* submitted by 13:00 South African
   Standard time on Thursday the 1st of October, 2026.*
   - All submissions received will be guided by our speakers and organisers
   to prepare their submission for AfriCHI 2027 and or CHI 2028.

*Industry/NPO/NGOs*

   - You present your research or workshop which aligns to the topic
of  "Embracing
   HCI for an Empowered Africa and South Africa" at the symposium from an
   industry perspective to provide academics and their students insights fr=
om
   an alternative view.
   - You are required to become ACM SIGCHI
   <https://sigchi.org/people/membership/> and ProteaCHI
   <https://forms.gle/q8gHftnC5zvXxU1p9>members.
   - You can find the additional requirements for you under "Industry
   requirements" at the end of this email.
   - All your and your student materials are sent to us via the relevant
   form by relevant documentation is* submitted by 13:00 South African
   Standard time on Thursday the 1st of October, 2026.*

*Dates and travel information*

   - *Those travelling from outside South Africa please ensure that you
   obtain your visas, vaccinations, etc. well before your travel dates. *
   - *Your are expected to arrive on the afternoon/evening of Sunday **the
   29th of November **and fly out on the evening of the Thursday the 3rd of
   December 2026. If there is no late flight please arrange a flight for
   Friday the 4th of December. *

*Participation *
Please note that for you to engage in our symposium we will require all
attendees to present their research as either academic, researcher or
student and be registered ACM SIGCHI <https://sigchi.org/people/membership/=
