Addison Wesley Publishers is sponsoring a=20
User Interface Design Contest=20
in connection with the publication of:
Designing the User Interface: 4th edition
Ben Shneiderman & Catherine Plaisant
The Challenge
Students are asked to create a Web site to help=20
a campus, community, neighborhood, healthcare,=20
philanthropic, museum, or educational organization.=20
The Goal
By engaging students in the challenges and rewards=20
of community service students gain a valuable real-world=20
experience and make a difference in their communities.=20

Enter the Contest
Instructors of Fall 2004 courses in Human-Computer=20
Interaction, user interface design, Web usability, and=20
related courses in the U.S. and Canada are invited to=20
participate. Students can compete individually, in teams,=20
or as a class (that's up to you), to work with these=20
non-profit organizations building and improving their Web sites.=20
Each instructor will select a winning entry for each course=20
section and submit a 500-word description containing the URL=20
of the student work during November 5-15, 2004. Each submitting=20
team will get their choice of three books from the Addison-Wesley=20
book list.
Then the 5-member review panel will select the best of the group
for review by Ben Shneiderman and Catherine Plaisant. They
will choose the winner and arrange to appear for a guest lecture
in the class of the winning team during the first two weeks
of December 2004.=20
