We are excited to invite researchers, developers and designers interested i=
n telepresence and hybrid communication to our CSCW 2023<https://cscw.acm.o=
rg/2023/> Workshop: ``Emerging Telepresence Technologies for Hybrid Meeting=
s: an Interactive Workshop=92=92

Abstract:

We are rapidly moving to a hybrid world, where telepresence technologies pl=
ay a crucial role. But, are current technologies ready for such a shift? Do=
they provide adequate support for interaction and collaboration? In this w=
orkshop, together with the participants, we will try out a variety of telep=
resence technologies for hybrid meetings. Based on small hybrid group activ=
ities we will explore how different systems compare in terms of immersion, =
interaction, and usability. Additionally, we will reflect on the social imp=
lications of telepresence. The aim of the workshop is to bring together the=
lived experiences of both remote and local participants, with activities t=
hat stimulate reflections on our experiences. These reflections will fuel g=
roup discussions, to identify future research areas in telepresence and hyb=
rid meeting technologies. Results from the workshop will be published as a =
white paper with recommendations for the design of future telepresence and =
hybrid meeting technologies.

Call for participation:

The workshop is intended for HCI researchers and designers who are interest=
ed in studying or developing telepresence technologies for hybrid meetings =
and collaboration. Applicants can make one of two types of submissions; 1)=
a 2=964 page position paper on the subject of telepresence systems for hyb=
rid meetings, OR 2) a 2-6 page system contribution proposal that describes =
a telepresence system (commercially available or their own prototype) desig=
ned for hybrid meetings/collaborations. Accepted system contribution propo=
sals will be invited to bring the technology system to the workshop where i=
t may be tested in the interactive sessions.

The application deadline is the 11th of August 2023.

The workshop will be held in hybrid mode on the 14th or 15th October (TBD).
