I am really excited to say that my book, Thresholds of Digital Gameplay,<ht=
tps://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262553582/thresholds-of-digital-gameplay/> is co=
ming out December 16th (next week!)
The book is about the many transitions and transactions players negotiate w=
ith to participate in digital gameplay. It=92s a book about the digitalizat=
ion or software-ization of gameplay (it is part of MIT=92s Software Studies=
series), but mostly its about how many of the interactions and interfaces =
that surround digital gameplay influence or direct games, gameplay, and gam=
e design. I talk about fun stuff like character configuration, controllers,=
micro transactions, and even access controls (ooooo)! I talk about how the=
se administrative attachment have fundamentally altered aspects of the phen=
omenon of gaming as a recreation.
The book is meant to be useful for more scholars across HCI, media studies,=
social science, and in-between but also designers, and even players, and e=
nds with an attempt discuss how the analysis might augment respective toolk=
its.
For folks in the US only, unfortunately, I even have a pre-order discount c=
ode for 30% off: MITP30, or 20% off only after launch: READMIT20 (details =
on code<https://mitpress.mit.edu/discount-codes/>)
Please don=92t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
