One-day workshop at ACM CHI 2014, April 27th in Toronto, Canada

SUBMISSION FORMAT: 2-4 page position papers, not anonymised, formatted according to ACM SIGCHI Extended_Abstracts_format (see http://chi2014.acm.org/authors/format#extendedformat).

Interactions around money and financial services are integral to our everyday lives, and new technologies provide opportunities to use and interact with systems of exchange. This workshop gives researchers and practitioners involved in the design and use of systems that combine digital media with financial interactions an opportunity to develop their understanding about these technologies and their impacts on behaviors.


This one-day workshop combines interactive discussions with presentations allowing researchers and practitioners to disseminate and get feedback on findings, network with other researchers, and provide a platform for future research initiatives.


To participate, please submit a posi
 tion paper (2-4 pages) in the ACM Extended Abstracts format (http://chi2014.acm.org/authors/format#extendedformat) about work-in-progress, recent results, methodology, or perspectives around the topics. Papers will be peer-reviewed and 10-15 participants will be selected to attend the workshop. Submissions (PDF) should be emailed to <[email protected]> by January 31st, 2014 (full details available at http://chimoney2014.wordpress.com).


TOPICS:


The workshop will interest researchers and practitioners in areas including, but not limited to:


•   Examining how social meanings of money/mechanics of exchange informs infrastructure design

•   Designing digital infrastructure for alternative forms of transaction/currencies

•   Demat
 erialisation and rematerialisation (from real to e, and back; how achieved, problems, utility)

•   Establishing and maintaining credibility/trust/security

•   Exploring how the digital divide reflects or challenges fiscal inequalities

•   Inspecting how economic systems underlie our own work, with what consequences

•   Digital banking, transactions and digital cash 



One author of each accepted position paper must attend the workshop.  All participants must register for the workshop and for at least one day of the conference.
