software development free to good home

Dear all,

This may be a rather strange email for this list but, here goes. . .

Many years ago when doing my PhD I also programmed a web-based
bibliography and index card system to help with my research and also
because a) I didn¹t want to spend money on the commercial software and b)
through I could do a better job. I thought others might get some use out
of it so it¹s been available for free download.

Since that time, it¹s gone through numerous upgrades and I¹m quite proud
of the fact that it¹s been used by many individuals and institutions
including NASA, universities, and several groups within the French CNRS.

With full-time work in a completely different field, I'm finding it
increasingly difficult to work on the development and, sadly, I've never
found a university I¹ve worked at willing to take it on as a project. I
now don't have the time to work further on it and to devote as much time
and thought to it as it requires so must throw in the towel. With some
minor exceptions, in the more than 10 years I¹ve worked on it, with some
minor exceptions, I¹ve been the only developer but now must accept that I
cannot on my own compete with commercial interests. Also, as it¹s expanded
in functionality, I¹ve needed to acquaint myself with more and more
protocols and skills and can no longer keep up.


So, I would like to offer the software development to a computer
science/information management degree as a continual, long-term project. I
think it¹s ideal for this as, in addition to the core code that needs
maintenance and additions, there is a system of plug-ins so the
opportunity exists for all sorts of project work small and large.

It¹s called WIKINDX and is written in PHP/MySQL with some javascript. It¹s
managed through sourceforge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/wikindx/)

If anyone takes it on, I have two stipulations: that it remains free for
individual use at least; and that I remain involved with the project at
least as adviser/eminence grise.  Contact me off-list if you are
