The 17th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction International (HCII 2015):

Parallel Session on Human Factors in Game-based Learning

Call for papers

Introduction

Game-based Learning (GBL) has been emerged as one of the most effective educational technologies. This is due to the fact that GBL possesses many positive effects on student learning, such as enhancing the interaction with students and stimulating their learning motivation. Accordingly, GBL is popular to learners who have diverse characteristics. As a result of such popularity, human factors play an essential role in game-based learning. On the one hand, there is a need to develop a deep understanding of the effects of human factors on game-based learning. On the other hand, it is necessary to ensure that game-based learning systems can accommodate diverse users’ needs. This is also the two purposes of this parallel session.

More specifically, this parallel session is to build a forum for discussion of theoretical and practical works that bring the new knowledge of the influences of human factors on game-based learning. We hope that the implications of findings of each work presented in this parallel session can be used to improve the development of game-based learning systems so that these systems can effectively provide entertainment and education values for different types of users.

The topics discussed in this parallel session will cover a wide range of human factors, including cognitive styles, culture background, gender differences, and prior knowledge. In addition, topics below may be also interesting to this parallel session:

*         Usability of Game-based Learning
*         Personalized Game-based Learning
*         Collaborative Game-based Learning
*         Individual Trait and Ergonomics
*         Mobile Game-based Learning

Review Process

All papers will be peer reviewed. The papers should be eight to 12 pages in length (including the title and reference page). Good papers from the parallel session may be invited to submit for a special issue in Interactive Learning Environments.

Important Dates

Deadline for authors to submit papers: 5th January 2015
Notice of review results: 20th January 2015
Deadlines for the final version of papers: 1st February 2015

Please submit you paper by e-mail to Jen-Hang Wang ([email protected]). Only MS-Word files are accepted.
