Dear all, Apologies for cross-posting. This is a call for workshop position papers for the CHIPlay'19 workshop on Play, Culture, and Food. Submission deadline: September the 15th Notice of acceptance: September the 22nd Workshop date: October the 22nd Place: Barcelona, Spain More information about the workshop: https://playandculture.wordpress.com/ ================================================= CHIPlay'19 workshop on Play, Culture, and Food In this one-day workshop, we will explore how culture and traditions can guide the design of playful interventions for everyday situations and practices, like eating. With other scholars and practitioners from diverse communities and backgrounds, we will: - Share, analyze, and make creative use of playful food and eating traditions; - Engage in a hands-on design activity, prototyping new and interesting eating experiences; - Explore, reflect on, and discuss strategies to chase culturally-grounded manifestations of play in broader situations, and make designerly use of them. If you are interested in design methods and play(ful) design, this workshop is for you! You do NOT need to be a food/tech expert. We have selected food and eating as design domains because of how relatable they are for everyone. Submission instructions: Please submit a (max. 4 page) expression of interest to: [email protected], before September 15, including: - A 150-word bio. - A short (~300 word) statement about the perspectives you bring to the issues we will explore in the workshop. - A description of one or more playful food traditions from your family, culture, community, etc.. An example of a description of a playful food tradition can be found here. - Optionally, you can also describe strategies/methods you have used to take design inspiration in culturally-grounded play. Proposals will be selected based on originality and relevance to the workshop themes, considering having a diverse representation of perspectives and cultural backgrounds.
