IMAGE, SPACE, OBJECT 2
FOUR INSPIRING DAYS OF LEARNING, INTERACTION AND CREATION
DENVER, COLORADO -- AUGUST 23-27

A Rocky Mountain/High Ground and AIGA interdisciplinary workshop with
a special exhibition on Herbert Bayer
http://www.aiga.org/imagespaceobject2005

Come to ImageSpaceObject2 -- a unique workshop, where creatives from
all disciplines learn new collaborative methods and explore research
methods and techniques for creating a complete and compelling
experience. World-renowned designers explain new approaches to design,
that you put into practice in afternoon studio sessions. You will
leave this workshop re-energized, equipped with new collaborative
design techniques that can be put to use on your own projects.

Participants will learn -- and actually practice -- effective
collaborative methods for researching and conceiving the whole design
experience including visual communications, interactive media, exhibit
and signage design, interior design and environmental design,
furniture and object design and brand planning.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with the following
design mentors and more:
Hugh Dubberly, Dubberly Design Office
Hugh Graham, Digital Story Tellers, Denver
Chris Hacker, Aveda, New York
Katherine McCoy, High Ground, Colorado
Michael McCoy, High Ground, Colorado
Sigi Moeslinger, Antenna Design, New York
Fred Murrell, Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design
Rick Robinson, NOP World
Masamichi Udagawa, Antenna Design, New York
Mikon van Gastel, Imaginary Forces, New York

A past participant said: "The best part of this workshop was all the
personal time spent with the presenters. Their explanations were made
relevant to my work, which helped to solidify the concepts in my mind,
and showed me how I could apply the techniques in my everyday studio
practice."

The workshop concept:
Led by Katherine and Michael McCoy, (who were recently honored with
the Smithsonian Institute's Design Minds Award
http://ndm.si.edu/PRESS/IMAGEGALLERY/NDA/2005/index2.html ) the
workshop begins with morning presentations by top designers,
strategists and educators. These presentations will give participants
the tools to apply new design methods in the afternoon project
assignments. Participants will take home copious documentation of the
methods presented in the workshop as speakers illustrate these
methods, with case studies, that demonstrate their application on real
business projects.

In the afternoons, small interdisciplinary teams will work on their
assignments in the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design studio
facilities. The studio masters will mentor the teams and individuals
during studio sessions. In addition to working with them in the
studio, participants will have the opportunity for in depth
conversations with the presenters and studio mentors through smaller
breakout sessions and informal lunch roundtable discussions.

The team assignments will be structured for group interaction as well
as individual design exploration. The teams will work on the
conceptual design of a public space including visual communications
and interactive electronic experience with furniture, fixtures and
space design. They will use methods integrating narrative and scenario
development, design language analysis and innovative presentation
techniques. The teams will present their concepts for critique and
discussion by the faculty on the final studio day.

The lectures and studio sessions will take place on the charming and
unique campus of Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, 10 minutes
west of downtown Denver. The campus enhances team interaction and
personal creativity with its well-equipped, spacious studios and
wireless internet environment.

Special exhibition

Herbert Bayer: Images, Spaces and Objects
A new exhibition of the work of Bauhaus master and American modernist
Herbert Bayer will open at ImageSpaceObject2 in the Rocky Mountain
College of Art and Design's Philip J. Steele Gallery, adjacent to the
workshop's auditorium. Books, posters, prints, drawings, watercolors,
tapestry, maquettes and sculpture are drawn from private collections
and the Bayer family archive, including several pieces not previously
exhibited. The exhibition curators, Lisa Spivak and Fred Murrell, will
