Good post and an intersting topic.
If I understand thigs correctly, I do not see it as a knock towards the
actual software, but in design itself. While there are many sites that
are very well thoght out and designed well (i.e. navigation, design,
artistic, etc), there are actually as many sites that are tough to
navigate through and seem like they are design sloppy. The internet is
a tool. If i m interested in a website or just need some information, I
like the site to be user friendly as in someone who is surfing the web,
not user friendly as in the person who creates the site there by making
it easy for those who understand things like code, scripting etc-
techie friendly is probably a good term.
I had actually worked for a company that had a decent design, yet thre
wre still problems with clients/customers accessing certain information.
Perhaps I am just a regular user and please dont take this as an attack
towards you or other designers. Like I mentioned there are (I am sure)
many sites that are creative and fairly easy to navigate, while
providing useful information (business or otherwise).
When I designed my site, I was coached by a professional to be
creative, while making the site easy enough to navigate, "keep it
simple" was something he mentioned often enough.

Subject: [AIGAExperienceDesign] I totally disagree with Jakob Nielsen
I was completely shocked to read such an article at the BBC site, Mr.
JaKob Neilsen, known as the usability guru has something to say on
web2.0 'distracting design'.
