This is the fifth event in an ongoing effort = by the facilitators to enhance our current body of knowledge about longitud= inal research.=20 Introduction: As user experience issues become more central to HCI, the value of longitud= inal research=E2=80=94collecting user data over time=E2=80=94is increasingl= y recognized. Design researchers understand the importance of observing ext= ended use of products and systems, and seek to improve methodology and deve= lop best practices for longitudinal research. Traditional user research and evaluation methods tend to focus on =E2=80=98= first-time=E2=80=99 experiences with products, which trends the results mor= e towards discoverability or learnability problems, rather than usability c= oncerns that may persist over time. This SIG seeks to extend current thinki= ng by providing a forum for discussion of methods and metrics that have pro= ven effective for longitudinal data collection. =C2=A0 Goals of the SIG: The goal of this SIG is to help participants gain a better understanding of= the longitudinal user experience research taking place in both industry an= d academia. The desired SIG outcomes are:=20 =E2=80=A2 Collaborative discussion of key issues, both appropriate methodol= ogy and research questions that lend themselves to longitudinal study=20 =E2=80=A2 Sharing and capturing detailed experiences of longitudinal resear= ch to fulfill the immediate need for use cases =E2=80=A2 Publishing in the longitudinal research wiki the information supp= lied by participants Questions to be Addressed: - What are the methods for longitudinal research? - What are the risks associated with longitudinal research? - What research questions can longitudinal studies can help answer? - What techniques/tools can I use for comparative data analysis? - Is iterative design/testing considered longitudinal?
