Is it that the users find the tree view difficult to use, or just difficult to learn? It may still be appropriate to stick with a slightly extended learning curve if the tree view turns out to be the most efficient and comfortable interface in a situation of regular repetitive use. The usability of a tree can be affected by very subtle differences in function and behavior. Increasing the hit area of line items and open/close controls is very helpful, even by 10 percent. Also, if possible, animating the transitions between the open and closed states of nodes of the tree will help users maintain a sense of context. Animation is especially helpful in mitigating the negative affects of the click target moving after it's clicked (for instance, when collapsing a branch). Cheers, -Abel - Abel L. Hi there.. does anyone know of some good resources on the design of treeviews ? This is a topic that I am dealing with in a design for an application that the users are finding too difficult to use - as they are not technically inclined. They find the tree structure far too confusing. What alternatives to a treeview do you have experience with and found customers were comfortable using? What has been your experience with the icons used in treeviews..are they a help or a hindrance? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks susan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
