Hello,

Horde 4.0-git Debian Lenny

I' m encountering some issues with mo files and more exactly imp.mo that
seems to be encoded in ISO-8859-1 instead UTF-8.
I checked that the imp.po has been encoded in UTF-8. For that I use a
console UTF-8 (Putty) and create a file tmp.po in which I
put a few lines to translate "Get Mail" in french .
msgid ""
msgstr ""
"Project-Id-Version: fr_FR\n
"Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: [email protected]\n"
"POT-Creation-Date: 2008-03-18 09:02+0100\n"
"PO-Revision-Date: 2008-05-31 11:39+0200\n"
"Last-Translator: Yannick Sebastia\n"
"Language-Team: French <[email protected]>\n"
"MIME-Version: 1.0\n"
"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n"
"Content-Transfert-Encoding: 8bit\n"
"Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=(n > 1);\n"

#: templates/dimp/index.inc:64
msgid "_Get Mail"
msgstr "_Récupérer le courrier"
Then I run : </www/horde/bin/translation make --locale=fr --module=imp
--no-compendium> and get a new imp.mo
Then I run : (LANG=fr_FR; LANGUAGE=fr_FR; LC_MESSAGES=fr_FR; gettext imp
"_Get Mail" ) and get :
"_R▒cup▒rer le courrier" I means french accents are replace by squares.
I repeat the settings of my window putty are UTF-8.
Then I modified the settings of putty for ISO-8859-1 and run again
(LANG=fr_FR; LANGUAGE=fr_FR; LC_MESSAGES=fr_FR; gettext imp "_Get Mail"
) and get:
"_Récupérer le courrier". This means IMHO that imp.mo is encoded in
ISO-8859-1 whereas imp.po is indeed encoded in UTF-8.So I'm wondering if
it is not during the compilation in mo file that the problem occurs.

Thanks in advance for any help

Best regards

Gerard Breiner
