Vacation: Data Format Errors

I am having a problem with Vacation H3 3.0.0 which gives me the following reply
when emailing a person set up with the vacation set:

The original message was received at Fri, 7 Jul 2006 13:16:31 -0400
from [XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX]

   ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
"|/usr/bin/vacation user"
    (reason: Data format error)
    (expanded from: <[email protected]>)

   ----- Transcript of session follows -----
501 5.6.0 Data format error

I looked on the web and someone mentioned the following fix:

In lib/Driver/forwards.php do the following:

$_vfs->changePermissions('', '.vacation.db', '0640');
$_vfs->changePermissions('', '.vacation.msg', '0640');
$_vfs->changePermissions('', '.vacation.dir', '0640');
$_vfs->changePermissions('', '.vacation.pag', '0640');

I tried that and I still get the same message. I am using Sendmail as an SMTP
server.
