That´s interesting:

character_set_client=latin1
character_set_connection=latin1
character_set_database=utf8
character_set_filesystem=binary
character_set_results=latin1
character_set_server=utf8
character_set_system=utf8
character_sets_dir=/usr/share/mysql/charsets/

Directly in mysql i get:

mysql> show variables like "character%";
+--------------------------+----------------------------+
| Variable_name            | Value                      |
+--------------------------+----------------------------+
| character_set_client     | utf8                       |
| character_set_connection | utf8                       |
| character_set_database   | utf8                       |
| character_set_filesystem | binary                     |
| character_set_results    | utf8                       |
| character_set_server     | utf8                       |
| character_set_system     | utf8                       |
| character_sets_dir       | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ |
+--------------------------+----------------------------+

Should i change that? And if: where? In /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini i have

; PHP's built-in default is text/html
default_mimetype = "text/html"
;default_charset = "iso-8859-1"
default_charset = "utf-8"

but i guess that doesn´t concern the database access?

Regards Gregor
