yes I can search in the GAL, however the GAL contacts are not listed on my
iPhone - but i can search the gal an the matching contacts are found and
displayed.

So you can search the GAL from a Active Sync connected Mobile Device with
expected results? What kind of Mobile Device is it (Android, Apple, WM...)?
This would point to some local configuration problem at our end...
