I had a similar bug some month ago. My bug was caused by a malformed  
mail which caused dovecot to crash. Unfoirtunately, horde EAs did not  
recover from this.
Upgrading to a bakcported newer Dovecot solved the dovecot crash and  
subsequently the EAS problems.

Maybe its worth to check your dovecot logs for a sudden crash of a process.
