now I see clearer: it's not a segfault:

[Fri Mar 11 23:46:04 2005] [error] [client xx.yyy.zzz.xy] Allowed memory 
size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 12 bytes)

I increased the memory_limit to 20M in the php.ini file and now it's 
working. :-)
