I agree with this, but it seems from reading the old postings to the list
the Chuck was very much interested in using the imap proxy, and not using
native nntp calls.  I didn't see any rebutals.  So I assumed staying with
imap proxy was the charted path.

I can see why it is desirable from a a conceptual point of view to use
the imap proxy code.  I can also see, from experience, that doing it with
more native nntp calls should be faster.  The question is, what is the 
direction troll should go?

Yes, there is interest, but I think some of us interested in it lack
the "overall plan" of where it is expected to be headed, and hence while
I've studied the code for 3 days now, I've been hesitent to actually work 
on any changes, not knowing what direction it should be moving in.

So, are we trying to move to all imap calls (like Chuck said), all 
nntp (either nntp or nnrp classes), or a mixture of them?
