Retrieval of mail sometimes very slow

Hello,

when I click on a subject line of a new mail (or double click) in  
Horde, it often takes less than a second to read the text of the mail.  
Sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds for the text to appear.

Is there any clue as to what these huge differences could be? Or can I  
do tests to get this out?

I use dbmail-imapd. Horde and the mysql database for dbmail run on  
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, dbmail-imapd itself on an older server (modified  
Slackware).
