Please when you do so, either distribute the original plugin verbatim under the same name adn a different version, or better rename it but rename also all the ids, names and path you use, so they are markedly different from the ones used in the orginal plugin. When you do not, you create confusion, as your updates can collide with the orginal plugin, especially in the UI. For instance try to install both Quantun and your plugin, and see the results in the prefs pages : confusion.... Alternatively the right way to integrate is to work with the original plugin developer to add extension points, that you can in turn extend, and you can then just bundle the original plugin, together with your plugin extending it nicely. That is the whole idea behind plugins... But if you keep integrating without fully renaming, then you make you plugin impossible to reuse with other plugins. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Bananeweizen (bananeweizen) Date: 2006-01-10 16:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=440739 Most foreign plugins have been removed from the current CVS feature. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Lester Caine (lsces) Date: 2005-02-07 00:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=175009 There are discussions on the Quantum list to provide the necessary links to do this correctly, and that is a work in progress. Renaming the plugin would provide a little more clarity, but does cause even more confusion when there are two plugins BOTH doing the same functions. It can be bad enough getting the right editor at times ;) So while the complaint is justified, simply renaming everything is possibly the wrong answer. Personally I would prefer to be able to simply leave out 'add-on' plugins that do clash! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Philippe Ombredanne (pombredanne) Date: 2005-02-06 22:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=879778 The TCP/IP monitor (I guess you took it either from the WTP or IBM orginal contrib to it, has the same problem. It is still using the same view names and so on. I think when you borrow instead of extendng you should also rename all UI names. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2005-02-06 15:43 Message: Logged In: NO At the moment we're moving to the original quantum plugin. See the Quantum forum for these things: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=24178 (though this will take a while) All the other plugins should have their own id's etc. If not please send a comment which other plugin (except the quantum plugin) makes problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2005-02-06 15:43 Message: Logged In: NO At the moment we're moving to the original quantum plugin.
