Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Ryan Holmes (ryanholmes) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Conflict with WTP 0.7, Xerces 2.7.0 Initial Comment: Eclipse WTP XML validator is broken when Spindle is installed. This is apparently a conflict between Xerces 4.0.13, which is installed as a Spindle dependency, and Xerces 2.7.0 installed with WTP. The following error was reported when parsing web.xml with the WTP XML editor: An internal error occurred during: "Processing Dirty Regions". Error log shows: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.apache.xerces.xni.XMLResourceIdentifier.getNamespace()Ljava/ lang/String; at org.eclipse.wst.xml.core.internal.validation.XMLValidator._internalRe solveEntity(XMLValidator.java:348)... There are no errors after uninstalling Spindle. Using Eclipse 3.1, WTP 0.7, Spindle 3.2.2 on Mac OS X with Apple JDK 1.5.0 (bug also verified with Apple JDK 1.4.2). A bug report has been filed with WTP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-13 13:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 I have finished renaming the xerces plugin and rebuilding Spindle to avoid the conflict with WTP 0.7 ###### IMPORTANT ######## Merely installing Spindle 3.2.3 will not make the problem go away if it currently exists. That's because the old org.apache.xerces_4.0.13 plugin will still be there to pooch WTP. ##### Recommended ###### Install WTP 0.7 and Spindle 3.2.3 into a fresh install of Eclipse 3.1 #### HARD WAY ###### Update Spindle to 3.2.3 and then manually remove the conflicting plugin... eclipse/plugins/org.apache.xerces_4.0.13 and then (re)start Eclipse with the -clean flag on the command line. - last word - Spindle 3.2.3 will be available shortly after this note is posted (in the usual places). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-12 22:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 Did a test and renaming org.apache.xerces_4.0.13 to org.apache.xerces.spindle_4.0.13 does the trick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-12 21:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 Interesting, I downloaded and installed the WTP all-in-one and *then* installed Spindle.. guess what? WTP works fine but Spindle is broken! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-12 16:55 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 thxs, will have a look ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ryan Holmes (ryanholmes) Date: 2005-09-12 13:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1342957 WTP bug id is 106724, "Warning when building a dynamic web project" I should have said "A comment has been added" rather than "A bug report has been filed," as 106724 already existed. 106724 mentions the "org.apache.xerces.xni.XMLResourceIdentifier.getNamespace()" method error and sounds exactly like what I was experiencing, so I'm guessing that it's the same issue. If I don't see any followup on WTP 106724 in a few days, I will submit a new and more specific bug report with them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-12 11:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 could you please add the WTP bug id here? Seems to me that WTP may have goofed and not set the version it needs for xerces. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoffrey Longman (glongman) Date: 2005-09-12 08:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=387057 I will change the version number on the xerces plugin that ships with Spindle to remove the conflict. Will appear in Spindle 3.2.3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=459328&aid=1288073&group_id=50321 ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server.
