VIM has so= =20 much more edit functions that GPS cannot compete. Since both GPS and VIM=20 notice when the text is edited external it works quite well. Only thing is: Don't use the build in vim options. That used a xterm and=20 starts a new vim for each call to "edit external" which is quite silly.
