You probably did something slightly differently, since this works fine
with all recent versions of GPS (3.1.3, 4.0, development,...)
As for the icon, this is also fully documented in the reference manual
of GPS... There is a <pixmap> node, which is shown in the example in
the
doc.

You are right. It works now. It is my mistake to put the xml file in
the wrong place. The other thing is that the image/icon did not show up
as I thought. But, I think I can make it work. Again, thanks for your
help.
