Catalyst itself is a web framework that utilizes a number of other
powerful perl modules for the various MVC components. The beauty of
Catalyst is that it gives you the freedom to use pretty much which ever
templating engine, database interface, form handler, etc. that you want.
You can essentially switch out any of the MVC components and pick and
choose what you want. There are a number of 'default' components that
are used in most all of the documentation and you can get a working
install going by installing the meta module 'Task::Catalyst'. It will
install everything you need to get your feet wet and follow the
manuals/tutorials.

It may not be as easy to install as double clicking an exe on windows,
but I have gotten it running on many flavours of linux, windows and mac
with little effort. I find the trick is to first individually install a
couple of 'problem' modules that seems to trip up the main install.
Also, make sure you have configured cpan to 'follow' dependencies or you
will be sitting in front of your computer hitting 'yes' for a while...
To make sure you get everything installed, try running the
Task::Catalyst a couple of times until everything goes through. Here is
a list of modules I install before I go for Task::Catalyst

      * WWW::Mechanize
      * Test::WWW::Mechanize
      * DBIx::Class
      * DBD::SQLite
      * YAML::XS

I know it is not perfect or the smoothest of installs, but it has worked
for me and even my designers. Keep in mind that this is how I get it
running, you may have success by just installing Task::Catalyst or your
linux distro's packages. Following this method will ensure you get the
latest version of everything because development is moving along
quickly.

I hope this helps!! I would love to see better Catalyst support in
Komodo as I use it every day.
