Are you using a recent version of Exceed?  I actually switched away from 
Exceed to Xwin32 because I found the latter to be much faster, though 
perhaps recent Exceed versions have improved.  The Windows X-server 
features can make a difference.  I also use Xming, which is a free X 
server for Windows (https://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/).

You would need to download and try ActiveTcl 8.5 (or use an 8.5 Tk that 
was built with --enable-xft) to compare.  Xft is known for being much 
slower on rendering, but that's the way it can do proper AA.  When 
viewing on a local display, you don't really notice.

Actually, Komodo is feature rich to the point where you don't need to 
run the UI on the remote Linux server to edit the files there.  You 
could instead run it on whatever local machine you have (Win, Lin or OS 
X) and use one of the cool add-ons like Remote Drive Tree of JSTreeDrive 
(see Tools > Add-ons) to work with remote files.
