Rx Toolkit for Perl

I was trying to check a Perl regex and opened up the Rx Toolkit. This was
set to use Python and I tried to change to Perl but the entry was shown in
red and there was a message about the JSON module being required. However
this conflicts with what is said in the help where the JSON module is only
shown as being required for Ruby. I've added bug 88483 mentioning this
inconsistency.

 

How do I use Perl to check my regex, or do Python regexs work in the same
way? If the JSON module is indeed required where do I find this?
