Happy New Year to all,

This is a short note to inform you on whats been happening in regards to
Komodo recently, and what to expect in the near future.

Awards
------

Woohoo! Komodo received the "Best Python IDE" award from InfoWorld. Read
about it here:

Hirings
-------

We have a knew Komodo developer, Mark Yen (aka Mook), who joined the
team this week. Mark was previously working on SongBird and is well
versed in the Mozilla development process... welcome aboard Mark! You'll
find him on the Komodo IRC channel:
     irc://irc.mozilla.org/komodo

We also lost a long time employee, Trent Mick, who has moved on from
ActiveState... fare thee well Trent.

Development
-----------

Aside from taking off a few weeks over Christmas, the Komodo team have
been working hard on Komodo 6.1, which is set to have two major feature
changes:

* better Django development support
   * smarter language detection
   * code completions from Django template tags and filters
   * better indentation
   * improved code coloring
* Komodo projects similar to Komodo v5
   * static file and folder references (virtual folders)
   * more control of the listed/opened projects

The nightly Komodo builds include our work up-to-date, so please
download it and try it out for yourself:
     http://downloads.activestate.com/Komodo/nightly/

Komodo 6.1 is expected to finalize in the next week and release in the
beginning of February.

Parallel to the Komodo 6.1 development, we are looking at updating our
Mozilla code base to the latest (mozilla-central / Firefox 4) version,
which requires huge changes to the editor component (the Scintilla
plugin) in order to work on this version of Mozilla. To aid this goal we
have branched our svn code base, so Komodo 6.x work is now in a separate
branch whilst the svn trunk will now contains the Mozilla update. You
can see these svn branches here:

Cheers,
Todd
